It was replaced with an SMTP setting from my ISP – in this case, my cable provider.This solved the XP system but not the Vista system.For Outlook 2007 under Windows Vista, when using your ISP’s SMTP, an additional step of disabling authentication is required.Under Tools Outgoing Server Tab, uncheck “My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication” like so: Voila! Funny enough, after switching SMTP settings, I disabled the above Max MTU settings and Port Triggering on the BEFW11S4 router and emails are still going out. Not sure why there are so many issues (& resolutions) in the Linksys forums regarding email send issues with certain Linksys routers but there you go.There have been quite a few complaints that Outlook 2007 (running in Windows Vista) is not sending out emails properly when paired with certain Linksys routers.I actually experienced this recently – what a mess.Try getting that chord out of the box and plugging straight into the modem, especially if it is your desktop computer and you don’t need to move it around very often. Check for external interference I bet most of you have an i Phone, i Pad, sound system and at least one other form of electronic device in your modem area. Well, if so, then you need to check to see whether these things are causing electromagnetic interference.Try moving speakers out of the way and getting other electronic devices out of your modem space. Check for Foxtel or other types of TV Old Foxtel boxes can cause interference for your internet, even if you aren’t using them. The last suggestion is often the most powerful one.
In the meantime, I hope Purolator gets here quick with that replacement unit!I was having frequent internet drop outs and blaming them on my ISP. Update: I’m now using the above modem/router called the NETGEAR D6300 (AC1600 Dual Band Gigabit) which is lightning fast, has a huge wireless range and has many other cloud-based features. Sometimes viruses can live on your computer and suck resources away from what you are doing thus slowing down your speeds.Finally I changed to a new NETGEAR N150 modem and speeds went up and the drop outs stopped. I personally use this one as a daily scanner (aff link) on my PC and have found it to be the most accurate over time without slowing down my computer too much. Check for on-system interference Sometimes your virus scanner or other programs can interfere with your internet speeds.In short, I can see and access other computers in the local area network, but there is no internet connection.After 2 weeks of tech support calls and more than 4 hours of total support time, the effort finally paid off. During each call, tech support suggested changing MTU settings, disabling Block Anonymous Internet Requests, hard resetting the router, re-flashing the firmware, power cycling the modem & router, running static IP & DNS settings on each computer, adjusting various wireless settings, etc…. Of course, after each tedious call, the router would work fine. It got to the point that every 24 hours, the router needed a hard reset and a full re-setup to work properly again.
